Can I convert my existing pool into a natural pool?

In many cases, yes. We can assess your current setup and suggest options to retrofit it with a natural filtration system, and planted zones, turning it into a lush, living oasis.

Converting an existing pool is one of the most common enquiries we get, usually from someone who has grown tired of the chemical routine, or whose skin and eyes have made the decision for them.

The good news is that the pool shell itself is rarely the obstacle. A sound concrete pool is a perfectly good starting point, and reusing it saves the most expensive and disruptive part of a new build.

The real question is where the regeneration zone goes. A natural pool needs a planted filtration area, and it has to come from somewhere. Broadly there are three routes: give up part of the existing pool and partition it, build a separate planted basin alongside and link the two, or reshape the surrounding garden to accommodate it. Which one suits depends on your space, levels and how you use the area.

Other things we look at: the condition of the shell and waterproofing, existing plumbing and whether it can be repurposed, the pump and whether it suits low-pressure circulation, and levels across the site, since gravity does useful work if the fall is there.

Practically, converting is usually less disruptive than people expect — no demolition of the main pool, and much of the work happens outside it.

The honest constraint is the same as for a new build: if there is genuinely no room for a regeneration zone, conversion is not the right answer, and we will say so. A free design consultation is the fastest way to find out which situation you are in.
