Is a chemical-free pool safe for kids and pets?
Yes, and healthier too. With no toxic chemicals and natural filtration processes, our pools are designed to be as gentle on little bodies as they are on the earth.
On the chemical side, a natural pool removes an entire category of risk. There is no chlorine to store where a child could reach it, no acid in the plant room, and no chemical burn on skin if the dosing goes wrong.
For children, the everyday difference is the one parents notice first: no red eyes, no stinging, no bleached swimwear, and none of that chemical smell in hair afterwards. For anyone with eczema, asthma or sensitive skin, that difference is often the reason they chose a natural pool in the first place. Chlorine by-products are respiratory irritants, and swimming in water that contains none of them simply feels different.
For dogs, the same logic applies with more force — dogs drink pool water. A conventional pool means they are drinking chlorinated water and licking chemical residue from their coat. Neither is a catastrophe, but neither is ideal, and it is one less thing to think about.
The water is biologically balanced rather than sterilised. That is not the same as untreated: the planted zone and gravel bed remove the nutrients bacteria need, and continuous circulation prevents anything stagnating.
What does not change is drowning risk. A natural pool is a body of water and needs exactly the same respect as any other — supervision, sensible fencing or gates as your situation requires, and swimming ability appropriate to the depth. We would rather say that plainly than let “natural” imply “safe by default.”
Many designs also include a shallow planted margin or beach entry, which suits small children and older dogs better than a hard vertical edge.
